Terms of service

The plain terms that apply when you get a quote from us, sell us metal or book a pickup.

These terms apply to quotes, pickups and purchases arranged through this website or over the phone with Brisbane Scrap Metal Buyers.

Quotes and prices

  • Scrap metal prices move with the market. Any figure we give you is for that day and can change if the market moves or if the material is not the grade described.
  • A quote given over the phone or from a photo is an estimate. The final amount is set by the weight and grade recorded when the material is weighed.
  • Nothing on this website is a price list or an offer to buy at a fixed rate.

Weighing and payment

  • Material is weighed and graded when we collect it or when you drop it in.
  • Payment is made by cash or electronic transfer once the load is weighed and the paperwork is complete.
  • Where material turns out to contain a different grade than described, we will tell you before finalising the amount.

Identification and ownership

  • You must be legally entitled to sell the material. By selling to us you confirm that you are.
  • We are required to record seller details. Please bring current photo identification, and for a vehicle, evidence that you are entitled to sell it.
  • We will refuse any load where ownership cannot be established, and we cooperate with police where material is reported stolen.

Materials we refuse

For safety reasons we do not accept gas bottles, LPG cylinders, fire extinguishers, other sealed or pressurised vessels, uncut fuel tanks, asbestos or any material bonded to it, or drums containing chemicals. If a refused item is found in a load, it will be returned to you or left on site.

Pickups

  • Free pickup depends on there being enough material to justify the run, and on safe access for a truck.
  • Pickup times are arranged in advance and can be affected by weather, traffic and breakdowns. We will call you if a time has to move.
  • You are responsible for making sure the site is safe to work in and that the material is where we agreed it would be.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim connected with a purchase or pickup is limited to the value of the material involved.
